What we normally refer to as a "salamander" is apparently a type of lizard, and it was reportedly used by alchemists in the old days. I hope people don't think this creature's biologically or anatomically odd-looking. As far as this illustration goes, it probably would have looked a bit "cooler" to have the creature breathing fire here, but 2202 depicts the instant just before that happens. Maybe the character's negotiating some sort of deal with the salamander here...?
